For the third successive year, Gateway College claimed the Under 20 Inter International Schools’Football Championship.

Under 20


This tournament was the delayed 2021 tournament and consisted of 11 International Schools. In an exciting final, Gateway College Colombo defeated Royal Institute 4-3, with two goals from Umar Shakil and one each from Ometh De Silva and Samunu Kaggodaarachchi. Gateway College has now claimed this title five times in the last six years to maintain their dominance in International Schools Football.

Midfielder Samunu Kaggodaarachchi was awarded Player of the Tournament with his outstanding performance in the centre of the pitch, whilst his midfield partner Isa Fahim was adjudged Player of the Final. Best goalkeeper’s award went to Themika Welathantri of Lyceum Wattala, whilst Royal Institute captain Asif Ahmed won the Golden Boot scoring 8 goals. 

Under 16


At the Under 16 Inter International Schools’ Tournament that was running parallel, Gateway College Colombo emerged the runner up. Gateway had won their group stage having scored 21 goals with victories over CIS Kandy, Lyceum Ratnapura, Lyceum Panadura, Gateway Kandy and drawing with the Overseas School. They then defeated Elizabeth Moir in the semi-final before losing 2-1 in a hard- fought final against the Overseas School of Colombo.

Gateway captain Brian Herath put in some amazing performances throughout the tournament scoring 13 goals and winning the Golden Boot. Gateway keeper Nadal Senapala was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament whilst Elliot Correia of the Overseas School was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
