Gateway College has always been imbibed in the Sri Lankan culture and Religion as a foundation to learning. This has been the vision of the founder Mr. R I T Alles. In keeping with that vision, Gateway College has now embarked on a project to develop a series of text books in Buddhism aimed at students studying in International Schools. This will be further developed to include a series of Interactive multi – media lessons that will be aired through the Buddhist Channel which will reach out to the younger audiences both here in Sri Lanka and abroad.

As a first step towards this initiative, the school, with the blessings and guidance of Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thero, unveiled a new studio for the Buddhist Channel which has been named in memory of theirdear Founder Mr. R I T Alles. His Excellency the President was present as the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony that was held on the historic Vesak day. His Excellency the President, who has taken a keen interest to introduce Religious Education as part of the curriculum for International school students, welcomed the initiative.

The Chief Justice, the Minister of Education, the Attorney General, the Service Commanders, Ambassadors and many other dignitaries were present at the occasion. Mrs. Rohini Alles, Managing Director of Gateway, Hon. Tiran Alles, Member of Parliament and Dr. Harsha Alles, Chairman, Gateway representing the Alles family along with Heads of the Gateway School network were also present at the solemn ceremony.

Gateway College is confident that this partnership with the Buddhist Channel will provide the platform for further strengthening of the Dhamma and the inculcation of Buddhist Values in generations to come. Gateway as a multi-cultural and multi-religious school, has plansto engage in similar activities with other religions too.
